MetroPCS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Provides Comment on Passage of Comprehensive Spectrum and Auction Legislation
Posted on February 17, 2012 at 16:11 PM EST
DALLAS, Feb. 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Roger D. Linquist, chairman and chief executive officer of MetroPCS Communications, Inc. (NYSE: PCS), the leader in flat-rate, no annual contract and unlimited wireless services provided the following statement regarding the passage of House Resolution 3630: MetroPCS thanks everyone in the House and Senate, at the FCC and in the Administration who pushed for comprehensive spectrum and auction legislation. MetroPCS especially appreciates the key Members of Congress and their staffs who carried the ball over the goal line by including the spectrum auction legislation in the conference report for H.R. 3630 that has passed in Congress. MetroPCS was among the first carriers to point out the "spectrum crunch" facing competitive mobile providers and, since 2008, MetroPCS repeatedly has supported efforts of policymakers to make additional spectrum available for auction. MetroPCS has maximized the use of its limited spectrum capacity through efficiency, ingenuity, wise investment and innovation – including being the very first mobile provider to offer 4G LTE services and devices to consumers in the U.S. MetroPCS looks forward to gaining access to additional spectrum to better compete and offer American consumers more choices for affordable wireless broadband service. MetroPCS recognizes that the legislation in the conference report was a compromise. While we would like for more unused Federal government spectrum to be reallocated and auctioned in the near term, the enactment of the spectrum auction provisions in the conference report will start to relieve the "spectrum crunch," help the economy grow and create jobs.
